少數族裔獎學金 Scholarship Schemes for Ethnic Minority Students

香港融樂會一直關心少數族裔的教育,承蒙 社會上同路人的幫助,融樂會先後成立 / 連繫多個獎學金計劃,以幫助經濟有困難的少數族裔青年一圓其讀書夢。

HK Unison has continually concerned with education for ethnic minority students. With sponsorship from various charity foundations, Unison had set up several scholarship schemes, to financially assist ethnic minority youngsters to pursue their post-secondary studies.

  Chariot Club Scholarships for Ethnic Minority Students Yun Lin HU Memorial Scholarships for Ethnic Minority Students
Eligibility

1. Ethnic minority residents in Hong Kong with right of valid HK Identity Card. (Students holding study, travel or visit visa are NOT eligible for the application); and

2. Full-time student who are enrolled or will enroll in a First Degree programme of any tertiary education institute in Hong Kong in the 2012/13 academic year.

2. Full-time or Part-time students who are enrolled or will enroll in a degree or sub-degree programme in any tertiary education institute in Hong Kong in the 2012/13 academic year; and

3. Already completed a minimum of one year in a sub-degree (or degree) programme (any Diploma, Higher Diploma, Pre-Associate Degree or Associate Degree programmes).

Application Procedures

1. Fill out the application form. Download the form here or obtain it from your school office.

2. Send the completed form to Hong Kong Unison by post or in person to Room 1303, 13/F, Wang Yip Industrial Building, 1 Elm Street, Tai Kok Tsui, Kowloon before the deadline on 31st August, 2012 (Friday) on or before 5pm.

Application checklist

You MUST provide the following documents together with the application form

(1) The completed application form;
(2) A photocopy of your valid Hong Kong Identity Card;
(3) Photocopies of your public examination results (HKCEE, HKAL or HKDSE) and other qualifications;
(4) Photocopies of transcripts of your college/university record;
(5) A recent passport size photo to be pasted securely to the application form;
(6) Pamphlet and confirmation letter of the enrolled course/ programme  
           

Important dates
  • 31Aug 2012 (Friday) - Application Deadline (all applications must be submitted to Hong Kong Unison by 5pm)
  • Sept 2012 - Review of Applications. Short-listed candidates will be invited for interview by the Selection Board
  • late Sept – early Oct 2012 - The list of awardees will be posted on Unison’s website. Awardees will also be notified individually by mail.
Scholarship Details
  • 10-14 scholarships of maximum HK$20,000 each or the annual tuition fees, whichever lower, will be awarded
  • Selection criteria include academic performance, financial need, conduct, personal strengths and qualities, involvement in community affairs and extra-curricular activities, clear life goals, readiness and desire to serve others, especially to ethnic minority communities etc.
  • The scholarship will be paid directly to the awardees’ educational institutions to cover their course fees, or reimburse to students with the provision of school receipts, and will be granted by installments.
  • If no suitable candidates can be identified for the scholarships in the year, the fund will be rolled over to subsequent years. 
Obligation and duties of the awardees
  • Submit their tuition fee receipts, periodic academic reports and self-reflections to Unison /the donor;
  • Be responsible for and committed to their studies;
  • Support the mission of Hong Kong Unison by volunteering themselves to contribute to ethnic minority communities or in the HK society as a whole.
Objectives of the Scholarships
  1. To support ethnic minority youths who are keen to purse their tertiary education but facing financial difficulties;
  2. To widen their career paths and provide them equal opportunity to become contributing members of the Hong Kong society;
  3. To instill the spirit of hope and a sense of direction among the ethnic minority youth.

  4. A representative from the Unison Scholarship Committee
Scholarship backgrounds

“The Chariot Club Ltd.”, formerly known as “The Macau Trotting Club Members’ (HK) Association Ltd.”, is a non-profit making organization which was established on 8 August 1981 by 21 Macau Trotting Club members. It aims to provide clubhouse services and activities to its members.

This scholarship is set up designated to ethnic minority students with objectives to encourage more ethnic minority youth from less privilege class to pursue higher education as well as to provide concrete measures to lessen their financial tension.

Unison is grateful to have the generous support from The Chariot Club Ltd. for ethnic minority students and honored to be the administrator for the scheme since 2011. The scheme has awarded 4 ethnic minority students with an amount of $ 46,000 since its establishment.

Mr. Yun Lin HU was born on 19 July 1923 in Shanghai. His family originated in Zhejiang province. Mr. HU believed that education can change one's destiny.  He worked hard in the day time as an apprentice and struggled to complete his secondary school education despite the hardship brought forth by the Sino-Japanese war.

After living in Hong Kong for a short time, Mr. HU moved to Taiwan in 1948 where he founded the Crown Auto Supply Company.  He was a caring father of six children, an honest man, a filial son, a faithful husband, a loving brother and a philanthropist.  Mr. HU passed away on 9 July 2006 in San Francisco.

The scholarship is set up by descendents of Mr. Yun Lin HU in 2008 with specific objectives to improve career paths of ethnic minority youngster. The scheme has awarded 37 ethnic minority students with an amount of $ 416,770 since its establishment.
